Cheriff,
We are all lazy, at least sometimes. I can remember many times after dinner, laying on the couch and I was extremely lazy to get up and go running. One of the biggest motivations was my dad, who would get up and start getting dressed to go out running. I would have been humiliated if I let this old man go run and I stayed laying on the couch, so I guess having a "motivator" is one thing that helps.

I think I have found that the key is keeping your goals vivid in your mind. I would cut out articles from the newspaper of my opponents and tape them up around the house. We had "motivational posters" hanging in my room, the hall, the garage, on doors, etc. Wherever I went, there was a constant reminder of what I wanted to achieve, and that prevented me from being lazy, because it continued to remind me what I needed to do to succeed in my goals.

Currently, at age 40, if you walk around my house, you will see images of "things" I want to buy, places I want to visit, and most recently because I have decided to get back into better shape, images of where I want to get physically. So even almost 20 years after I stopped competing, I still use images to motivate me to reach my goals.

Hope that helps.

I googled my name just for kicks today and this came up. Do you have any of my matches? I don't have a single one. Would love to see one of them.</p>

Steve,

I have been doing this on the side as a way to kind of break back into the wrestling scene over the next few years. I do have a few videos out on Youtube of me and of the 1984 Olympics. I am hoping to get some tapes from UW-Madison soon which should have some great matches of Matt Demaray, Dan Flood, John Harms, Charlie Irick, Keith Davison, Dave Lee, and more. I also want to try and do some "compsite" technique videos, basically just showing a certain move being performed by different wrestlers in different matches as a way of teaching correct technique. I have done just one so far: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVpWEDKLgVc

I would be happy to contribute any way I can to the sport. At this time, I can't make a committment as to how much or how often, but I would be happy to help with articles and videos as I can.

Hi Steve

Just wanted to let you know that I read your article on your blog and am impressed. I have a site for wrestlers, coaches and parents who want to improve wrestling through their strength, conditioning and nutrition... it's at www.wrestlingperformance.com.

I am thinking about adding a video/article technique section if you're ever interested in contributing moves/technique material.

Best Regards

Steve Preston
